ColemanCompany, Inc. is an American brand of outdoor recreational products, particularly camping equipment, now owned by Newell Brands. The Coleman Company's new headquarters are located in Chicago with facilities in Wichita, Kansas and Texas. There are approximately 4,000 employees. [1] Some of the products made are portable stoves, lanterns, coolers, sleeping bags, camping chairs, and shelters.
The company was founded by William Coffin Coleman, who started selling gasoline pressure lamps in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, in 1900. In 1905, the company held a demonstration for the 1905 Cooper vs. Fairmount football game (now Sterling College and Wichita State University). Coleman gas lamps were deployed to play the first night football game west of the Mississippi. [2] In 1996 the company acquired the French Campingaz. Coleman is now a subsidiary of Newell Brands through a series of acquisitions through Sunbeam Products and Jarden.
